Lesson Information

Heather Denton Arlin I offer private flute and piano lessons at my home studio in Rochester, NH to students from age 4 to 104! Half hour lessons are $18. Lessons are taught Monday through Thursday between 3pm and 7pm. Every August, my students participate in an annual recital where they show off their skills individually and in groups with other students. I also have holiday concerts at local nursing homes to give the students another performance experience and to provide entertainment for the residents who have proven to be the best audience!

“Heather is such a gifted piano teacher! She has taught my daughters for 8 yrs. They look forward to going each week. Heather has helped them to have a love for music. Piano lessons are the best gift you can give a child!” ~ Kim S., Strafford, NH

Performance

Heather Denton Arlin In the past, I have performed with the Seacoast Wind Ensemble under the direction of Paul Erwin for over ten years and with the Ocean Winds Flute Ensemble for over ten years as well. These experiences, along with my performing groups at UNH, have enabled me to see exactly which skills are required for students going on to music careers. Currently, I am a member of the Music Committee at True Memorial Baptist in Rochester, NH. I perform regularly with my students and my mother for church services and events. I also provide music for wedding ceremonies for all faiths and in all different locations. In August 2009, I participated in the concert to break the Guinness World Record™ for World's Largest Flute Ensemble in New York City under the direction of Sir James Galway (my hero!).

Education

Formally educated at the Music Department of the University of New Hampshire, I have studied privately with Professor Peggy Vagts (flute) and Arlene Kies (piano). However, having 18 years of piano lessons and 10 years of flute lessons with wonderful teachers prior to my time at UNH has inspired me to pass along the tradition of independent teaching in my home studio. I was encouraged to teach by my piano teacher, Miss B, and teach on her piano to this day! I have found true joy watching students grow musically.

“Thank you, Heather for the many years of excellent piano instruction you have given my son. From when he first met you at age 5, he has felt an excitement about making music that continues to this day- 12 years later! With your constant encouragement he has developed a love for music that he will most likely pursue in college. Because of you he has become an award winning pianist and is very active in playing for community and church events. We are so grateful for your musical mentoring and your genuine affection for all your students.” ~ Nancy J., New Durham

Holiday & Vacation Schedule

Heather Denton Arlin There will be no lessons on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. I am closed for the week between Christmas and New Years. Usually, once or twice a year I will close for vacation. Students are given a minimum of a months notice for these closures. I do not charge for lessons when students go on vacation unless I am not given the appropriate notice.

"Since 2004, Heather has been teaching several of my children both piano and flute. She is a phenomenal instructor who excels at providing her students with the technical skills to play proficiently. Proper fingering, breathing techniques, and core music principles are reinforced to enable mastery. My children know that much is expected of them and have learned to aim high in order to play well.  The annual summer recital is a highlight as Heather often has the students play in duets or ensembles. It’s great to see the kids work together to perform for family and friends! I hope my youngest shows an interest in piano or flute so we can still have Heather as a key part of our weekly schedule!"
